James “Jim” E. Stump, 84, passed away on June 10, 2021 at The Hospice Home in Burlington, NC with his beloved wife Sue by his side.
Jim was born on September 4, 1936 in Frame, WV to Holly Howard and Lilly May Stump. James was a business owner for many years and owned both Sunoco and Exxon service stations. He also worked as a truck driver for Rite Aid pharmacy before retiring to North Carolina.
Jim has lived in Burlington, NC for sixteen years with his beloved wife Sue and their treasured dog Jake. Soon after moving to North Carolina, they joined Mount Pleasant United Methodist church, where Jim deepened his love of Christ and found a true church family.
Jim loved music and never forgot the words to his favorite songs, even when Dementia robbed him of his other memories. Throughout his life, Jim loved to play guitar, sing and dance. He was also an avid boater, fisherman and hunter. In more recent years, he enjoyed bird watching, especially the hummingbirds, cardinals and woodpeckers that regularly flocked to his yard.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Sue, daughter Judy Pettit, son James “Jimmy” Stump, step-children Greg (Kim) Linville and Peggy Walters, nephew Joe Holmes, and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Holly and Lilly Stump, sister Iris Ann Holmes and brother Jack Pauley.
