As it pleased Almighty God, Mamie Louise Mangum was called home on May 20, 2021. She was 76 years old.
Born to Phillip Mangum, Sr. and Fannie Nunn Mangum on October 26, 1944, she was the eldest of 13 children. Sher loved cooking, sewing, caring for people, and watching western movies. She graduated Hillside High School in Durham, NC in 1963.
She worked as a telephone operator for GTE (Verizon) for numerous years. Upon leaving, she worked for Duke University Health System as an operator until retirement in 2009.
She is survived by one daughter, Angela D. Minor, one son, Christopher B. Mangum, one granddaughter, Danielle C. Mangum, one grandson, Tommy D. Mangum- Harris, one great grandson, DeMario M. Mangum; Sisters, Margo Brown, Peggy M. Nickerson (Maurice) of Coral Gables FL, Phyllis M. Peacock, Illa K Mangum, Staphana A. Mangum, Sheila A. Mangum, Phillippa Mangum; and brother Phillip Mangum,Jr., all of Durham, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister India Y. Mangum, and brothers Aubrey F. Mangum and Ricardo V. Mangum.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 11:00am at Beechwood Cemetery, 3300 Fayetteville Street, Durham NC 27707. All flowers should be sent to Beechwood Cemetery on day of service.
