Cary, NC: Mary Christian Kyle departed this life on April 28,2023 at the age of 92.
Named Mary Margaret at birth, she was forever nicknamed “Chris” by her
future husband, John Milton Kyle III/”Milton” when they met roller
skating. While Chris dreamt of studying to become a nurse, those attentions
were instead devoted to her four children: Johnny, Debby, Kelly and Cindy.
She suffered the deaths of Johnny and Kelly when they passed away
respectively at the young ages of 14 and 21. Nevertheless, she continued to
be a strong and supportive mother to Debby and Cindy and later to her
grandchildren: Nicole, McKenzie and Calahan all of her life.
Chris and Milton were married for 53 years and lived on both the East and
West coasts during their life together. While Milton worked in San
Diego, Chris became an active member of Eastern Star in 1972. After
relocating some years later to Virginia Beach, Eastern Star became the
career she never had but always wanted. She attained the positions of
Worthy Matron, Grand Marshal and Grand Representative to California.
This gave her ample reason to exercise her joy of driving by traveling to
many other chapters, making numerous friends, and enjoying every
minute. She also volunteered her time for 11 years as the “First Impressions
Administrator” for the Virginia Beach City Hall.
After being married for 53 years, she lost Milton, the love of her life, in
2004. Six years later she returned to her birthplace of North Carolina to be
closer to family. She went on to live 12 more years, far exceeding the
longevity of any preceding relatives, for which her family is grateful.
She was a shining example of strength and hard work, which she instilled in
her family. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
